No u21 player in Europe’s top divisions has created more big chances than Arsenal’s Mika Biereth this season, according to analysis by Football Wonderkids.

Biereth is level with Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen with 10 big chances created so far, despite spending a fair period of the season out injured.

The Arsenal striker spent the first half of the campaign on loan with Motherwell, where he scored six goals and assisted a further five in 11 starts.

It seems that assist tally was no fluke, with Biereth creating twice as many big chances as were converted during that spell.

As mentioned, Biereth’s Motherwell spell was severely impacted by injury, which makes his tally even more impressive.

Wirtz may be playing in a much tougher league in the Bundesliga, but he’s also played over one-and-a-half times as much league football.

Biereth is a centre-forward, and he’ll primarily be judged on how he takes his own chances.

The fact he scored 43% of his opportunities at Motherwell, a better rate than anyone else in the top-20 Scottish Premiership goalscorers this season, is certainly good too.

But to create almost one big chance per game is huge for your team. If he can translate that to his second loan spell in Austria, he might start to get Mikel Arteta’s attention.

Biereth is currently on loan with Sturm Graz, having been recalled from struggling Motherwell in January.

The striker has already scored on his friendly debut and his competitive debut for his new side, and he’ll hope to do the same on his league debut against RB Salzburg on Friday.
