Manchester United will play their final game of the year against Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend.

Wolves have endured a difficult Premier League campaign but have had a positive start to life under new manager Julen Lopetegui.

United returned to league action with a comfortable win over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday and are inching closer towards the top four.

The Red Devils were beaten 1-0 the last time they met Wolves and will be looking to enact their revenge this weekend.

When and where will the game take place?

After playing back-to-back home games, United will head to the Molineux for the clash against Wolves.

The match will be played on Saturday afternoon as the first Premier League game of the day.

Match Preview

Wolverhampton Wanderers

The home side endured a highly underwhelming start to their league campaign, particularly struggling to score goals and prompting the dismissal of head coach Bruno Lage.

Former Sevilla boss Lopetegui has now taken charge at Molineux and guided Wolves to a 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Gillingham in his first competitive game in charge.

They then returned to league action on Boxing Day with a 2-1 over Everton, with Rayan Ait Nouri coming off the bench to score a dramatic late winner.

Wolves will now be looking to continue their good run this weekend and end their winless home streak against the Manchester outfit.

Manchester United

United are playing well at the moment and are within touching distance of the Champions League places in the Premier League table.

Like their weekend opponents, the Red Devils have made it to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup after beating Burnley 2-0 in the fourth round last week.

They then recorded their biggest Premier League win of the season last time out, beating newly-promoted Nottingham Forest 3-0 at Old Trafford and could very easily have scored five.

Erik ten Hag should have a larger pool of players to select from this Friday with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez returning to Manchester, and team captain Harry Maguire back to fitness.

Player to watch – Neves vs Eriksen

The quality of United’s midfield has improved significantly since last season and will have another key role to play this weekend.

Ruben Neves has been quite clearly Wolves’ best player this season, not only offering protection for the back four but also chipping in goals at the other end.

Christian Eriksen has been quietly effective for Ten Hag’s side of late with four goal contributions in his last three appearances for the club.

It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in the battle between the two midfielders.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Manchester United Predicted XI
