Arsenal fans haven’t seen Thomas Partey on the pitch since October 2023. An untimely thigh injury forced him back into the treatment room after just 15 minutes of action against Manchester City.

This latest setback capped off a frustrating season for the Ghanaian midfielder, who has been plagued by injuries and faces increasing competition for his place in the starting lineup.

Just a year ago, Partey was a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s midfield, forming a solid partnership with Granit Xhaka and Emile Smith Rowe. He even wore the captain’s armband on occasion. However, things have changed dramatically since then. The arrival of Declan Rice in the summer pushed Partey to the periphery, and his inconsistent fitness hasn’t helped his cause.

Adding to Partey’s woes, Arsenal are reportedly eyeing Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi as a potential long-term replacement. The young Spaniard’s impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed, and his arrival could further threaten Partey’s future at the Emirates.

Partey’s contract expires in 2025, meaning Arsenal have a crucial decision to make this summer. If they want to recoup any significant portion of the €50 million they paid Atletico Madrid in 2020, they need to sell him before his value depreciates further.

Reports from Spain suggest that Barcelona are keeping an eye on Partey’s situation. However, the cash-strapped Catalan giants are unlikely to make a concrete offer unless Partey’s price tag drops significantly.

Despite the challenges, Partey remains optimistic about his future at Arsenal. He recently rejoined the training group and believes he can regain his importance in the team.

Only time will tell whether Partey can overcome his injury woes and rediscover his top form. One thing is certain: Partey’s future at Arsenal hangs in the balance, and the upcoming summer transfer window could be a defining moment in his career.
