Man United simply have to pull out all the stops to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.

It’s no secret that Manchester United is no longer the premier destination for players who are looking to make a transfer.

Sadly, a slow rot has set in, with the Old Trafford club falling down the Premier League pecking order. Manchester City and Liverpool have turned into winning machines of late. It’s why Erling Haaland chose the blue half of Manchester.

Alas, Erik ten Hag is doing his best to help United get back to their best and rediscover past glories. Though this process takes time.

There’s no doubt that Jude Bellingham will be the next big player on the horizon of all the top clubs when the Englishman moves on. That transfer is expected to take place next summer.

As things stand, Liverpool apparently lead the race. However, Bellingham isn’t going to come cheap and as we all know, the Anfield club don’t have an unlimited transfer budget. FSG ensure they always work to a tight budget. That could play into United’s hands.

Simply put, United must do everything possible to try and sign the emerging 19-year-old this summer.

Manchester United need a midfielder

Casemiro was signed, yes. However, the Old Trafford club still need one more high-level midfielder. Bellingham is that true box-to-box man who is already amongst the best in the world in his position.

You’d imagine that the only other clubs that could afford to bring Bellingham in are City and Chelsea. At most, this is a four-horse race. United have a good chance, though they have to prove they’re a side on the up.

How do United show Bellingham they’re on the rise?

Well, a spot in the Champions League would be an excellent start. The best players want to play in the best competitions. It’s probably why Frenkie de Jong wasn’t so hot on a transfer to the Theatre of Dreams this summer.

If, somehow, United can finish above both Chelsea and Liverpool this summer, it’d be a welcome boost ahead of Bellingham becoming openly available for transfer.

That’d then make it a two-horse race between the Manchester clubs.

This strikes me as the signing that City would make in order to prevent other clubs from acquiring Bellingham. However, United can point to Kalvin Phillips, who is wasting away on their bench, as a reason why the Englishman should not be moving there.

The English continent at United could play their part

Bellingham, like Jadon Sancho, moved to Borussia Dortmund as a young teenager in order to further his career. I’d like to think United’s winger would be whispering in the ear of his fellow Englishman, encouraging him to come to the Theatre of Dreams and work in this Ten Hag system that’d suit Bellingham down to the ground.

Sadly, neither Sancho nor Marcus Rashford are in the latest England squad. Though Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are. Hopefully, they’re spreading a positive message about the direction in which United are going.

United’s longstanding interest in Bellingham will be at the back of the player’s mind

Don’t forget United made a play to sign Bellingham when he left Birmingham City. The Reds rolled out the red carpet and even got Sir Alex Ferguson involved. The club have always known just how special this young man is.

Bellingham will know that United have always liked him as a player. Players want to be wanted. This can only help United in their pursuit of the talented teen.

The verdict

So it’s going to be tough and United will need a little luck, but I firmly believe the Red Devils are in the hunt to acquire Bellingham next summer. I guess it largely depends on how the Red Devils look over the course of this 2022/23 season.
