After an empathic 6-2 win, Tottenham ends the first portion of the Premier League in third place, just a point off the top, as the international break signals a two-week break from domestic football.

In truth, the international break has come at a poor time for Spurs, as with Antonio Conte’s side still unbeaten after seven league games; it would have been preferable to keep the momentum going.

However, most of the squad will join up with their fellow countryman and compete on the international stage for the last time before this year’s World Cup, but who exactly will Spurs’ big hitters be facing across the next fortnight?

Those representing European sides will partake in the latest rounds of Uefa Nations League fixtures, bringing an at least semi-competitive edge to the next few games.

Of course, England captain Harry Kane will lead the Three Lions in ties against Italy and Germany, but for the Spurs fans, the most notable inclusion in Gareth Southgate’s squad is the return of Eric Dier.

After a prolonged absence, Dier will be hopeful of winning his 46th cap – the first since a Nations League victory over Iceland back in November 2020.

Following his terrific season in 2021/22 and a strong start to this campaign, Dier’s omission from recent squads has baffled Tottenham fans. Still, his call-up in the final squad before the World Cup may hint that the Englishman could be on for a trip to Qatar this winter.

Elsewhere, Ben Davies, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Ivan Perisic, Matt Doherty, and Dejan Kulusevski will also participate in Nations League games; despite being named in the French squad, club-captain Hugo Lloris has been forced to withdraw due to an injury.

Given the often-experimental nature of the Nations League, Spurs fans will hope, given the aforementioned players are all well-established internationals, managers may rotate their players in preparation for the World Cup, meaning for Tottenham, they may come back well-rested.

Outside of Europe, the likes of Yves Bissouma, Heung-Min Son, Davidson Sanchez, and Richarlison will play in friendlies, again giving coaches the chance to finalise tactics and preferred line-ups for Qatar.

There a certainly a few interesting matchups over the next week, with the highlights including Perisic against Hojbjerg in Croatia vs. Denmark or Diers’s return to the England side as England travel to Italy.

For Spurs fans, we must hope the International break doesn’t disrupt our record-breaking start to the season.

Conte will spend the next two weeks preparing for the North London derby upon the Premier Leagues return, where hopefully, Tottenham can continue our fine start to the season.
