Ryan Sessegnon has been getting some chances under Antonio Conte and can now build on a solid performance against Manchester City.

After a good but not outstanding loan with Hoffenheim last season, Sessegnon came into the 2021/22 season hoping to earn some time and impact Tottenham. Unfortunately for Sessegnon, injuries derailed any success he may have had under former coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

Finally fully fit again – and needed due to some health complications with Sergio Reguilon – Sessegnon has started the last two matches for Spurs.

After falling behind early to Wolves, Sessegnon was sacrificed in a shape change, only seeing 28 minutes in the 0-2 loss. However, the loss was not all on Sessegnon, and with Reguilon unavailable, Ryan again started against Manchester City and this time went the full 90 minutes.

It was the first complete game Sessegnon played for Spurs since February 2020, an FA Cup match against Southampton. The minutes were a good sign for Ryan as was his overall play.

Sessegnon was generally smart with the ball in his limited touches and was first to a second-chance ball which changed the game. At the same time, Sessegnon was still a bit timid and tentative in possession, which, combined with playing the best possession team in football, led to limited touches. For Sessegnon to take the next steps in his game, he needs to improve in these three areas.
