After huge a James Ward-Prowse boost for West Ham yesterday, Newcastle are now threatening to derail David Moyes’ plans.
West Ham manager David Moyes is keen to bring James Ward-Prowse to the London Stadium this summer, but Newcastle are now pursuing a move to sign the 28-year-old Southampton skipper (Daily Mail).

Ward-Prowse is apparently open to joining the Hammers from the Saints in the summer transfer window.

However, with the Magpies joining the race, it may well end up being mission impossible for West Ham.
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle side are in a really strong position to secure Champions League football or next season, and if the Toon do that, they will clearly be front-runners to sign Ward-Prowse…
West Ham face big Newcastle problem in race to sign James Ward-Prowse
With the Mail reporting that the Toon are in for the 10-capped England international, the Hammers will really have our work cut out if we are to sign him.
That’s a huge shame for West Ham – Ward-Prowse is exactly the kind of player we need.
Newcastle will be in a much stronger position than us to afford that kind of fee in the summer, and if they secure Champions League football for next season, Moyes may well be fighting a losing battle.

Ward-Prowse, 28, is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, and has been described as a ‘brilliant’ player by The Athletic.
His set-piece delivery is up there with the very best in world football and with Aaron Cresswell’s playing days winding down, he would have been the ideal summer acquisition for the Hammers.
James Ward-Prowse is much more likely to join Newcastle than West Ham this summer in my opinion.
And if that happens it will once again prove just how much better, sharper and more efficient we will have to operate in the transfer market going forward.
