West Ham will rue their buy back clause oversight as a Euro football expert raves about Sunderland star Pierre Ekwah.
Many questioned the wisdom of letting the young central midfielder leave for Sunderland.
Especially as the 21-year-old had really impressed every single time he represented the youth teams.
Ekwah had also shone during West Ham’s pre-season last summer as well.
Throw in the fact everyone at West Ham was well aware Declan Rice and Manuel Lanzini would likely be leaving this summer and it seemed an even stranger decision.
So it has not gone unnoticed that Ekwah is getting lots of publicity for his brilliant performances for Sunderland.
The former Hammer scored two excellent goals in a 5-0 demolition of Southampton last time out.
And that had West Ham fans asking the question ‘do we have a buy-back clause?’
Some reports from the time he departed West Ham for the Stadium of Light claimed he does.
But that is not the case it seems.
West Ham will rue buy back clause oversight as a Euro football expert raves about Sunderland star Ekwah.
‘I’m starting to see more hype…’
West Ham do have a 35 per cent sell on clause relating to any profit Sunderland might make in the future.
But they will surely be regretting their lack of foresight on this particular deal as Ekwah wins rave reviews.
Not least from European football expert and Sky Sports presenter and analyst Dougie Critchley.
Critchley is well versed on Europe’s top leagues and talents. He also has a passion for Sunderland.
And his hands off warning only serves to highlight West Ham may have dropped a big clanger letting the France Under 20 ace go too soon.
“I’m starting to see more and more (deserved) hype for Pierre Ekwah and I don’t like it,” Critchley said with his Sunderland hat on.
“I don’t like it at all.
