It appears as though the Hammers were never really interested in the Chelsea hitman though.

Or at least Moyes wasn’t…

West Ham had a big chance to sign Romelu Lukaku in the summer

C&H suggest that Moyes gave a firm ‘no’ when presented with the opportunity to sign the 109-capped Belgium international, 30.

The Scot was clearly happy with his current options of Michail Antonio, Danny Ings and Divin Mubama, after Gianluca Scamacca left to join Atalanta.

It was a bold shout from Moyes to reject the chance to sign the Chelsea owned striker, who has now joined Roma on loan.

The 30-year-old is an established international, and has scored goals consistently for every club he’s played for throughout his career.

Lukaku has bagged a really impressive 363 goals in 710 career games for club and country (Transfermarkt).

He is strong as an ox and would have provided ideal competition and cover for Michail Antonio. Who knows though – perhaps the fee and wages being quoted for the Belgian were far too excessive.

Only time will tell as to whether Moyes made the correct call by not bringing Romelu Lukaku to West Ham in the summer.

In fairness, the 30-year-old definitely doesn’t run the channels like Antonio does and is more of a target man type striker.

If Lukaku rips it up with Roma though, there will undoubtedly be criticisms levelled at Moyes for his refusal to sign him.
