A huge Lucas Paqueta update has just been provided by a West Ham United reporter with close links to the board.

Lucas Paqueta has been out of action for West Ham since picking up an injury against Bristol City in the FA Cup three weeks ago.

Hammers boss David Moyes is lucky that we’ve only had one Premier League game since then, and I’m hoping he might even be back for our clash with Bournemouth on Thursday night.

However, it’s Paqueta’s more long-term situation that’s in the news this afternoon. News broke back in the summer about the South American being under investigation from the FA and FIFA over potential betting breaches.

Just before that happened, Manchester City were said to be very close to signing him, with the player himself apparently having actually agreed a move to the Etihad.

Luckily, we kept hold of Paqueta in the end, due to the ongoing investigation surrounding him, and it now seems like history could repeat itself…

Major Lucas Paqueta update

A reporter really close to co-owner David Sullivan has just provided a big update on the Hammers star.

Sean Whetstone took to X to suggest that the ongoing betting investigation involving Paqueta could see West Ham keep hold of him beyond the end of the summer transfer window:

“The FA investigation into Hammer Lucas Paqueta over suspicious betting patterns is unlikely to finish before the end of this summer’s transfer window which is likely to put off a bid by Manchester City.”

So if that does turn out to be the case, it means that we will keep Paqueta until at least January 2025, and most likely until the summer of that year.

The Brazilian is such a magnificent footballer that even the most ardent of Hammers fans would surely agree it’s unlikely he’ll be at the London Stadium for the remainder of his career.

The fact that we have the 26-year-old at West Ham United in the first place is incredible really isn’t it. And judging by Whetstone’s latest Lucas Paqueta update, we might just be able to hold onto him for a while longer yet.

That’s great news whatever way you look at it!
