West Ham might have bought a £13 million dud after Thilo Kehrer put in an awful World Cup display for Germany against Spain last night.

Hammers boss David Moyes brought the 26-year-old to the London Stadium from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window for around £13 million.

Initially, Kehrer made a hugely positive impact at West Ham. He was arguably our best player during the first six weeks of the season.

However, the Germany international seems to have regressed badly over the past six weeks.

Kehrer has been an absolute liability for West Ham in certain games. He is rash in the challenge and his positional sense has been incredibly poor at times.

Personally, I still hold out hope that Kehrer will become a brilliant player for the Hammers but nevertheless, the question still needs to be asked: Have West Ham bought a £13 million dud?

Kehrer’s performance for Germany in World Cup clash hugely concerning

The 26-year-old was run ragged by the Spanish forwards out in Qatar last night.

Kehrer was his old rash self when defending, and received a booking before being hooked by Hansi Flick after 70 minutes.

The cornering thing is that the former PSG man doesn’t seem to be learning from his rash challenges and poor decision making.

He clearly has the attributes needed to be a huge hit in the Premier League.

Kehrer is incredibly quick, is strong in the challenge and has a decent leap on him.

However, the Germany international proved once again last night in the World Cup clash with Spain that all that counts for nothing if he is unable to concentrate for 90 minutes at the very highest level.

I stand by it, I still think the 26-year-old will go on to have a successful career with West Ham.

The Germany vs Spain World Cup clash was yet another reminder for us all of just how far he has to go though.

And David Moyes and his staff need to be in Kehrer’s ear all the time regarding his weaknesses.
