Peter Bankes will be the referee for the Newcastle vs West Ham United Premier League clash on Saturday evening.

The Hammers fans will not be happy one little bit with that, considering how tough it already will be against Newcastle.

Peter Bankes has officiated plenty of West Ham games over the past few years, and he’s caused controversy pretty much every single time.

Referee named for Newcastle vs West Ham

The Premier League have confirmed that Bankes will take charge of the Premier League clash at St James’ Park on Saturday, and that’s really bad news for the Hammers fans, the players and David Moyes.

West Ham have some history with Bankes.

He was in charge during our home defeat to Brentford last season and put in one of the worst performances ever witnessed by a referee at the London Stadium.

Bankes also incorrectly awarded Tottenham a penalty during our 1-1 draw earlier this season, only for it to be overturned by VAR.

The 41-year-old officiated our draw with Southampton this term, when we were hit with an FA charge after the game, having surrounded the referee. This came after Bankes inexplicably blocked Jarrod Bowen from intercepting a Southampton player immediately before they scored.

The Premier League referee was on VAR when Fabian Balbuena was handed a ludicrous red card during our home match against Chelsea a couple of years ago.

In addition to all of that, Bankes was on VAR when Anthony Taylor awarded Arsenal a penalty at the Emirates last season.

Usually things do not go well when he referees our games!

Newcastle vs West Ham kicks off at 17:30 on Saturday evening, and everyone will be keeping a very close eye on Peter Bankes’ performance.
