West Ham United could well make their move to sign Harry Maguire this summer.

Erik ten Hag is already beginning to change the overall shape of this squad. He has a specific way of playing that doesn’t necessarily suit many players within this squad.

He’s now had a year to get a proper look at every single player. You’d suspect this is the summer where major change will happen – in terms of both incoming and outgoing players.

One man whose place at the club is far from certain is Harry Maguire. Don’t forget that the Englishman is still club captain.

Rather than stripping Maguire of the armband, perhaps selling the defender is the easier option. There’s been talk of a Maguire move away on more than one occasion this term. After all, it would make sense given he’s now third choice at best.

In a recent article detailing United’s summer plans, ESPN offer a snippet on Maguire’s future, They believe that one club, West Ham, is ‘expected to revive’ their interest in the 30-year-old United man this summer.

Maguire has spent large chunks of this season on the bench. Victor Lindelof has certainly overtaken him in the pecking order, while Luke Shaw has probably done a better job at centre-back this season, too. There’s also talk of a new centre-half being signed during the summer.

As a rotational option, I’m sure Ten Hag wouldn’t be against keeping Maguire. However, if the price is right, it does feel like this summer is the time to move away from the ex-Leicester and Hull man.

I guess it all comes down to what the player wants. If regular playing time is his top priority, a move to somewhere like West Ham would certainly make sense. I’m fairly sure they wouldn’t be the only side interested in signing the Three Lions man, either.
