Tottenham defender Eric Dier is apparently being eyed up by West Ham in January, and now he may well be available on a free transfer.

Eric Dier has been with Tottenham since the summer of 2014, but West Ham could now prise him away from the north London club, and he might be able to leave on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old has barely played for Spurs under Ange Postecoglou this season, with just four Premier League games and 198 minutes of action to his name (Transfermarkt).

Hammers boss David Moyes is keen to bolster his central defensive ranks at the London Stadium in the January transfer window.

Kurt Zouma continues to struggle with his fitness, whilst Nayef Aguerd will be missing from action for the next four or five weeks due to his participation at AFCON with Morocco.

Dier is Moyes’s preferred type of centre-back, so it would ben no surprise to see the Scot make a move to sign him. And now it seems like a switch to East London could be even more likely for Dier…

David Ornstein has been speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE Insider show about Dier’s current situation with Spurs.

And he suggested that Tottenham could be willing to let him leave the club on a free transfer this month, despite the fact that he still has six months remaining on his current deal:

“Hugo Lloris has already gone to LAFC. That doesn’t bring in a transfer fee but it moves his salary off the wage bill which is crucial in this financial fair play era. They would very gladly do the same with Eric Dier who is out of contract next summer and is not part of the plans.”

Now, I don’t actually want us to sign Dier, but his potential availability on a free transfer may well make him one of Moyes’s top targets.

The 49-capped England international has been a superb player throughout the years, but he has regressed badly over the past 12 months or so.

I just feel like signing the 29-year-old would be a huge backwards step from West Ham. However, the fact that Tottenham may be willing to let Eric Dier leave on a free transfer this month will undoubtedly make him an attractive prospect for the Hammers board.
