West Ham blow as report claims Aston Villa are closing in on signing £13.2m left-back

Aston Villa are reportedly closing in on the signing of long-term West Ham United target Alex Moreno from Real Betis.

That’s according to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, who claim that Aston Villa have agreed a €15 million (£13.2 million) deal to sign the 29-year-old left-back.

David Moyes has been linked with the Betis ace for quite some time now. And with the need for a new left-back at the London Stadium now urgent, Moreno would have been the ideal January transfer window signing for the Hammers.

It seems as though Moyes will now have no chance to bring the Spaniard to East London though.

That’s because Villa boss Unai Emery is reportedly on the cusp of signing the Real Betis ace…

Aston Villa closing in on left-back signing

Mundo Deportivo reckon that the Villans are close to signing Real Betis star Alex Moreno for £13.2 million – a real bargain deal.

Moreno is an attacking full-back by trade, and is at his best when operating as a wing-back.

The 29-year-old can actually be utilised as a winger as well, and that versatility means that £13.2 million for his signature will be a really good value for money deal for Aston Villa.

Moreno is athletic, energetic and has plenty of stamina.

The only question mark about the Spaniard is whether he has the physical attributes needed to cope with the robust and intense nature of Premier League football.

Only time will tell with that I guess. I really feel like West Ham should have made a move for Moreno though.

Aaron Cresswell shouldn’t be anywhere near a Premier League team whilst Emerson has proven to be a fairly pointless signing.

Moreno would have been a huge upgrade on both of those in my opinion. However, with Aston Villa closing in on signing the 29-year-old, West Ham will now have to look elsewhere.
