Manchester United have confirmed their first signing of the summer; Tyrell Malacia.

Well, we were made to wait for it, but Manchester United finally have their first signing of the summer; Tyrell Malacia.

When all the media eyes were on the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Lisandro Martinez, United were working hard behind the scenes to get a deal done for this relative unknown.

Erik ten Hag will have watched Malacia extremely closely during the 2021/22 season in the Eredivisie, truly believing that this young man can make us infinitely stronger in the left-back position.

Now, the club have confirmed that Malacia has joined on a contract until June 2026, with the option to extend that by a further year if the club choose to do so.

Check out the photo of Tyrell Malacia all-smiles as he signs his contract here:

The Dutch defender has made over 130 professional appearances in his career so far, which is impressive given he’s still only 22 years old.

Making the jump up to the Premier League is not going to be easy for Malacia, though getting the deal done before the beginning of pre-season tour is a massive help. The Dutchman will now have ample time to get comfortable in a new dressing room – and I’m genuinely excited to see what he can do.

We have to be honest, Luke Shaw has been pretty underwhelming over the last twelve months and if that trend continues, Malacia will be more than ready to step in and stake his claim for the regular starting job. They’ll be no pressure from Alex Telles, who is looking likely to be sold this summer.

Welcome to the biggest club in the world, Tyrell!
