Tottenham Hotspur battle Manchester United for Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou

According to The Mirror [Print Edition] (h/t Manchester Evening News), Tottenham Hotspur are battling it out with Manchester United to secure the services of Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou in the summer transfer window. He has been one of the best in his position in La Liga this season and would undoubtedly be a great prospect for any team.

Man United are looking to plot a move for Bounou due to the uncertainty surrounding Dean Henderson’s future. They have identified the La Liga star as a suitable replacement for Henderson while also posing a strong competition for David de Gea and his starting spot. They will face off against Spurs, with the shot-stopper being touted to cost around £25million in transfer fees.

Tottenham are in the fray as well, but the Red Devils are not the only interested parties that they will need to be wary of in this particular transfer race. Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United are also keeping tabs on the Moroccan international as they look to strengthen their respective goalkeeping lineups.

Should Spurs sign Bounou?

Popularly known as Bono, the 30-year-old has been terrific in between the posts this campaign, having earned 15 clean sheets from 33 appearances across all competitions. Moreover, he has only conceded 22 goals during that period making him one of the best in his positions at this instant.

The Moroccan could be a great choice to replace Pierluigi Gollini as the second choice goalkeeper in our squad. After all, Gollini has not shown any signs to warrant that he should stay with us after his loan period ends this summer. As such, it would be wise on our part to let him return to Atalanta and not activate the £12.9million buy option for his signature.

Who knows, maybe the Sevillistas ace could even start over Hugo Lloris as the club captain is nearing the end of his playing career. Lloris’ current contract would expire in 2024, and we would need someone with real quality to eventually replace him moving forward.

Bono’s age, coupled with his current valuation, creates some concerns, but goalkeepers usually have longer playing careers than outfield players. Hence, he could still offer us his services for around five years or so if we decide to sign him at the end of this campaign.

That being said, we need to be on our toes at all times and make a quick decision regarding this matter due to the competition. Not to mention, game time could also be an issue, especially when Bono is a starter for his side right now. It remains to be seen how this situation would turn out to be in the coming months ahead of the summer transfer window.
