Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur could make January offer for Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic
The 29-year-old Croatia midfielder has made himself a very important part of Inter’s first-team set-up ever since he joined them from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer of 2018.
He is also on a long-term contract at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium which expires only in the summer of 2026 (Transfermarkt). Spurs manager Antonio Conte has experience working with Brozovic during the duo’s time in Italy.
In fact, the Croatian star played in 88 matches for I Nerazzurri during the Italian manager’s managerial reign. Brozovic’s engine in the heart of Inter’s midfield is what makes them a dangerous team.
His workrate up and down the pitch is valuable – something Conte can use at Spurs. It’s not that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur aren’t doing a good job.
The two of them are adept at breaking up play and building attacks from deep. However. Brozovic brings with him an impressive passing range and the ability to get himself involved in attacks more often.
Bentancur can do that too, in all honesty, but it’s always good to have someone of Brozovic’s ability around. It’s not a zero-sum game. He can come into the team and add to the quality and depth rather than simply ‘replacing’ someone.
Moreover, Conte oversaw a midfield exodus this summer that resulted in three players being loaned out. Giovani Lo Celso (Villarreal), Tanguy Ndombele (Napoli) and Harry Winks (Sampdoria) are all away on loan spells.

In this regard, it is important to look after our midfield’s strength and especially its depth. Yves Bissouma did join us from Brighton & Hove Albion this summer, but he is apparently facing difficulties with regard to adjusting to Conte’s tactics.
