Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham and Barcelona among teams chasing Sporting CP right-back Pedro Porro
Spurs have had to play Emerson Royal in the right-wing-back position, arguably due to a lack of better options. Matt Doherty and Djed Spence, meanwhile, have been backups to a player that the Spurs fanbase has found hard to trust as a regular starter.
Porro left Manchester City this summer and signed for the Portuguese team on a three-year deal (Transfermarkt). The 23-year-old is a smart attacking full-back who doesn’t shirk to do his defensive duties as well, and has seven assists in 17 games across competitions this season.
Those who have seen him would appreciate his all-around gameplay down the right flank of the defence. He is still just 23 and can hone his game – especially the defensive aspects – under manager Antonio Conte by heaps.
The Italian manager, after all, is famed for his teams’ defensive organisation and structure. The length of his contract isn’t too long for it to be a massive worry for teams.
But what could make teams sweat is the 17.6million Pounds buyback clause and the 30% sell-on clause that Manchester City inserted in his deal. For Spurs, the two La Liga teams being in the race would also be a worry.
Real Madrid are without a trusted backup for Dani Carvajal. Barcelona, meanwhile, are having to play Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde out of position at right-back because they seem unsatisfied by summer arrival Hector Bellerin.
