According to Sky Sports and Bayern Munich beat reporter Florian Plettenberg, Pierre Hojbjerg is not a Bayern Munich transfer target, contradicting yesterday’s rumour.

While the tweet is incredibly vague, it irrefutably says that Hojbjerg is not a player in Thomas Tuchel’s plans at Bayern.

The news contradicts yesterday’s tweet by Sport Bild’s Head of Football, Christian Falk, who said the Bayern board discussed the Dane as an option to pursue this summer.

The 24-hour turnaround can be interpreted in several ways: Falk could be correct in saying the board is discussing Hojbjerg more as a person of peripheral interest rather than a top transfer target.

That would correlate more with Plettenberg’s assertion, which, in no uncertain terms, says that the Dane is not a transfer target.

Plettenberg could also be off the mark with his latest tweet, but that possibility is less likely. He is unequivocal, saying Hojbjerg is definitely not a Bayern Munich target.

Until further supporting evidence surfaces, that’s the presumption Tottenham supporters should go with.

Falk’s tweet is more speculative, feeling distinctly like conjecture. Of course it makes sense for Bayern’s board to discuss the possibility of Hojbjerg’s return to the club.

Although I’m sure he was just one of a slew of potential transfer targets being discussed. For now, it looks like Hojbjerg will not make a return to the club he spent time at before landing in the Premier League with Southampton.

However, Hojbjerg’s spot at Tottenham is not secure, with other clubs reportedly interested in his services. Although details regarding which clubs are seemingly nonexistent.

Ange Postecoglou has yet to clarify his intentions regarding Hojbjerg, but the Dane’s position as one of Spurs’ starting midfielders is vulnerable.

The Dane endured a subpar 2022-23 season, akin to most of his colleagues, but many question whether Hojbjerg can adapt to Postecoglou’s free-flowing style of play.

Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp are better suited for the No. 6 role, while Hojbjerg isn’t a natural fit for the No. 8 role either. That might leave him on the outside looking in, so Tottenham’s interest in selling the Dane this summer are well founded.

He is under contract at Tottenham until June 2025. This story will almost invariably develop in the coming days.
