Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min warns Arsenal that Spurs can still cover up 11-point gap this season
Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min seems to be more optimistic than most Spurs fans in the Premier League title race this season.
He has stated that there is always the possibility of Spurs catching Arsenal at the top of the table. The gap between the two teams right now stands at a mammoth 11 points this term.
The Gunners have 44 points from 17 games. Spurs, on the other hand, have 33 points from 18 games and run the risk of being 14 points behind if they lose on Sunday with a game in Arsenal’s hand.
This will all but end our hopes of winning the league – if that is something any Spurs fan is dreaming of. As much as it would pain any of us to admit, the Gunners have been quality this season.
Son seems too optimistic
They have rarely looked like losing and have been getting results in big games as well as against sides that they are expected to beat. That is a title-winning competition.
After an early push for the title, we have fallen a long way behind. Son, however, remains optimistic. Speaking in a pre-match interview before the north London derby on Sunday, he said (h/t Mirror):
“We don’t prioritise the cups. The Premier League is long and something can always happen. Even Chelsea and Liverpool are pushing. There are so many games. We still believe in [winning the league] because this is a group of positive players.”
“We should give everything we have but obviously, the Champions League and FA Cup are really important for the club, players and fans.”
Chelsea and Liverpool? Really? They will be lucky to make Europe this season in any form. For us, if we do win at N17 tomorrow, the gap reduces to eight points with a game in hand for the Gunners.

They still have two games against Manchester City, who we would want to win considering no Spurs fan in their right mind would want Arsenal to win the title. But even then, this feels like an impossible task. Many of us will take a top-four finish with open hands if it was offered right now.
