Napoli beat Tottenham Hotspur in Kim Min-jae transfer race

According to Fabrizio Romano, Kim Min-jae has signed a deal with Napoli from Fenerbahce after the Serie A side triggered his €19.5 million release clause.

As per Italian outlet AreaNapoli.it (h/t Football.London) last week, the South Korean defender was apparently ‘dreaming’ of a move to N17 and wanted to link up with compatrion Son Heung-min.

However, the Naples-based giants have signed the South Korean international and included a €45 million release clause in his contract. His deal expires in the summer of 2025.

He signed for Fenerbahce just last year after leaving CSL. An Asian Gold Medal winner with South Korea, he knows Spurs’ Son Heung-min pretty well.

It’s a shame Spurs are not the ones signing the 25-year-old who stands at 1.90m tall. He is set to enter the prime years of his career and could have been a strong presence in our backline.

It is clear what his purpose in Napoli will be – to try and fill the big void left by Kaldiou Koulibaly, who moved to Chelsea earlier this summer. As for Tottenham, we have already signed a centre-back, albeit on loan.

Clement Lenglet is here on a season-long deal from Barcelona. While Ben Davies did a good job as a left-sided centre-half last season, fans would have certainly hoped Conte got in a top-quality centre-back with the long-term picture in mind.

Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni are two names linked with us during this window. But it seems like the duo is staying at Inter Milan.

It’s not like we haven’t made signings, but perhaps a world-class centre-back would have made fans even more confident going into the new season.
