Tottenham Hotspur attempting to land Azzedine Ounahi from Leicester City’s grasp
According to La Repubblica (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur are playing spoilsport in Leicester City’s efforts to land Moroccan star Azzedine Ounahi.
The Angers star impressed at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and stood out in a Moroccan side that made it all the way to the semifinals. His performances have not gone unnoticed with clubs keeping track of his situation.
Leicester City, in particular, are very keen on signing Ounahi but Tottenham are doing their best to trump them to the signing. As things stand, Tottenham are ready to ramp up their interest.
The 22-year-old is set to change clubs this month and Angers are willing to let him move on. The Ligue 1 side are keen to recoup £35million in transfer fee, a rather decent amount given the youngster’s potential.
Tottenham have already made contact with Angers and it remains to be seen how negotiations go. With Rodrigo Bentancur injured and Yves Bissouma struggling to impress, a midfield addition mid-season could help us get our campaign back on track.
An athletic presence in the middle of the park, Ounahi would fit well into Antonio Conte’s system and could form a solid partnership with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Tottenham were earlier linked with a move for Ounahi’s international compatriot, Sofyan Amrabat. However focus now appears to have shifted to the Angers star.
Italian giants Napoli are also in the race and are willing to offer upto €15m for the 22-year-old’s services. While it falls well below Angers’s demands, they are also willing to let the French side keep the player on loan for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign.
Leicester are ready to offer £20m after having an opening bid of £15m turned down for the 22-year-old up-and-coming star. With Tottenham now in the fray, it remains to be seen if Angers will get the bidding war they crave.

The Foxes’ presence in this race would only be a headache for the Lilywhites but it does show how highly the player is being rated after his displays in Qatar. Given the stature of our club, we should be blowing Leicester out of the water if it comes down to just these two teams for Ounahi. Hopefully, we have the cash ready to do just that.
