After a big FA Cup win over Brighton coming off the international break, Tottenham Hotspur is back in Premier League action against Southampton; here is Spurs projected XI.
Tottenham had almost as good an outing as they could in their last match against Brighton, a convincing 3-1 win. Back to league play, the Lilywhites, need to avenge previous prior draw with Southampton and take all three points to keep their top four hopes rolling on. Here are the 11 individuals who should start the match against the Saints.
Tottenham Projected Forwards
Lucas Moura did not have his best outing against the Seagulls midweek. However, it seems unlikely that Antonio Conte will change his front three with how effective they’ve been of late.
Left forward – Heung-min Son
Coming back from an injury that kept him out most of January, Heung-min Son enjoyed a strong return against Brighton. While not finishing at the level we expect from the South Korean superstar, Son was running well with the ball and showed no signs of rust. For Tottenham to kick on, Spurs need both Harry Kane and Son scoring; Southampton would be an excellent place to start.
Centre-forward – Harry Kane
Magnificent might be one way to describe Harry Kane against Brighton. Kane struck for two goals and was a bit unlucky not to find a third. Back at his box-to-box best, Kane is grafting hard with his hold-up play, which the entire team is benefitting from. Look for Kane to be back in on the goals and likely the assists on Wednesday.
Right forward – Lucas Moura
Maybe Dejan Kulusevski gets his first bite of the apple against Southampton, but more likely that comes against Wolves at the weekend. Instead, Lucas Moura will retain his spot in the starting XI. Lucas’s touch was slightly off against Brighton, but he fits Conte’s system well and has been one of Conte’s bright spots for most of the season.
