Tottenham Hotspur star Djed Spence takes drastic social media step after lack of playing time under Antonio Conte
Djed Spence has taken a drastic step on Instagram after finding playing time hard to come by at Tottenham Hotspur.
The English full-back was signed this summer from Middlesbrough after he spent a season on loan at Nottingham Forest where he played a major role in their promotion to the Premier League.
Manager Antonio Conte, from the get-go, made it clear that Spence was a player that the club wanted, and not him. That was a telling sign that the road will be long for Spence if he wants a regular place in Conte’s line-up.
After all, it is highly uncommon for a manager to make public comments such as that after a young player has been added to the squad. Since then, he has seen next to no meaningful playing time.
And that was the case when Emerson Royal was banned for three games after his red card in our 3-1 loss against Arsenal at the Emirates earlier this campaign. This is bound to be frustrating for him.
As confirmed by NottinghamshireLive and seen in the image below, Spence has removed all references to Spurs from his Instagram account. He has also blacked out his display picture and erased his bio and the only post that does remain up on his profile is of him in national team colours.
Spence removing Spurs completely from his most active social media account is a telling sign that something could be wrong behind the scenes. Of course, it could also end up being nothing.
But until there is more clarity on the situation, the Lilywhites fans, who have been desperate to see more of him this season, would be worried. He has played just 28 minutes of senior football for us this campaign spread across four games in all competitions.
