With one game left in a memorable World Cup, one thing we know as Tottenham Hotspur fans is that one Spurs player is lifting the trophy and making history.

Tottenham Hotspur did not have the most players participating in the World Cup, but the 12 representatives gave the club a chance to have a winner. Now that only two teams are left, we know that one Tottenham player is returning to N17 happy, having made history. Will it be captain Hugo Lloris and France or defender Cristian Romero and Argentina that wins it all? One thing we know for sure is that Lloris and Romero will play a big part in whatever the outcome.

Tottenham captain Hugo has come up huge for France in the knockouts

Since the knockouts have begun, the workload for Hugo Lloris has increased. Although he conceded in the opener against Australia, Lloris was not credited with a save, as the Socceroos only managed four shots. Then against Denmark, the Danes managed ten shots, but only two were on target, and Lloris saved one in the 2-1 Frace win.

Poland did manage a dozen shots in the Round of 16, but only three were on target, and Robert Lewandowski only scored after a penalty re-take, where Lloris was adjudged to have moved early.

When Lloris played England in the Quarterfinals, he only had two saves to that point in the tournament, but the Three Lions stung his palms as England managed five shots on target out of eight attempts. Lloris did concede a penalty goal to Kane but also saw Kane miss a crucial second spot-kick.

Lloris was again busy in the semi-finals, with Morocco managing 13 shots, with three on target. However, Lloris was up to the task, including an incredible save parrying the ball off the post just minutes after France took the early 1-0 lead. It was an excellent time for his first tournament shutout, setting up a big matchup against Romero, Messi, and Argentina in the final.

Romero carrying the flag for Argentina, Spurs

Tottenham has a long history with Argentine players dating back to Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa in the 1970s and carrying through to today, with Romero being the latest in a long line. While the big name in the Argentina squad and the one history will most remember if they win is Leo Messi, without Romero, Messi would not be in the finals.

After struggling to regain his fitness in the first two matches, Romero has improved with each passing start. He has slowly regained his form and his ball-hawking aggression as well. Romero played his best game against Croatia and seemed prepared to go a full 90, which Argentina will need against a strong French attack.

We do not know which team will win and who will bring back history; we know one Tottenham Hotspur player will, which we will find out on Sunday.
