Tottenham could stun West Ham by signing ‘world-class’ 22-year-old in the summer transfer window

Tottenham allegedly could beat West Ham United to the signing of Darwin Nunez in the summer transfer window.

West Ham and Tottenham both need to strengthen their respective centre-forward ranks.

Hammers manager David Moyes currently has Michail Antonio as his only option through the middle whilst Spurs boss Antonio Conte needs to bring in more competition and cover for Harry Kane.

West Ham want to bring Darwin Nunez to the London Stadium according to claims from the likes of Claret and Hugh and A Bola.

But could the 22-year-old striker end up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium instead?

Tottenham and West Ham set for summer transfer battle

Portuguese outlet Record (print edition April 5th, page 3) claims that Spurs are actually better positioned to sign Darwin Nunez than West Ham.

And losing out to Tottenham on the Uruguayan ace would obviously be a huge blow for West Ham.

Nunez is absolutely ideally suited to English football and would be the perfect summer signing for the Hammers.

Nunez’s playing style is quintessentially South American. He is a tenacious presser, plays with real physicality and has real technical ability. The 22-year-old seems to be ideally suited to the Premier League what with its intense and robust nature.

Nunez has bagged 27 goals in 34 games for Benfica this season (Transfermarkt). He’s about as prolific as they come.

The 22-year-old is fast, strong and is great in the air. He could cost around £50 million this summer according to A Bola.

That seems like decent value to us in this day and age. And whichever club wins the race for Nunez’s signature will undoubtedly be getting a great value-for-money deal.

Former Benfica coach Jorge Jesus once described the 22-year-old as a ‘world-class’ striker (SportTV).

It’s such a shame that we didn’t push harder to sign the South American hitman in January. Competition for his signature may now just be too hard to fight off in the summer.

It appears as though West Ham’s loss may well end up being Tottenham’s gain.
