Tedesco, 37, has signed a deal with the national side until after the 2024 Euros, replacing Roberto Martinez who left his role after the disappointing World Cup campaign.

However, the CEO of the Belgian Football Federation, Peter Bossaert, revealed that Henry will not be part of Tedesco’s coaching staff.

Henry had previously been assistant manager for two spells, first being appointed to the role in August 2016.

He left to take charge of AS Monaco in 2018 but struggled at the club, winning just five of his 20 games in charge before he was sacked.

Henry then spent over a year in charge of Montreal CF in the MLS before leaving for “family reasons” in February 2021 and rejoining Martinez’s staff as his assistant.

Despite the disappointment of their World Cup campaign, Henry and Martinez oversaw a third-place finish at the 2018 World Cup, Belgium’s greatest achievement at the tournament.

After Martinez left, questions were raised about Henry’s future, as he had expressed a desire to return to management, but he has now left the national set-up.

Tedesco, on the other hand, is eager to take on the role and said in a statement: “For me, it is a great honour to be the new head coach of Belgium. I’m really looking forward to the task and I’m extremely motivated. I had a very good feeling right from the first conversation.”

Belgium will play their next games in March against Germany and Sweden in qualifying matches for the 2024 Euros.
