Tottenham Hotspur set to miss out on Sonny Perkins who is close to joining Leeds United

Tottenham Hotspur are set to miss out on 18-year-old Sonny Perkins. The young sensation is close to joining Premier League club Leeds United, according to the Daily Mail.

Perkins is a highly sought-after youngster who left West Ham United earlier this summer after rejecting a professional contract with the Hammers. Aston Villa and Spurs have also been keen on landing the player, but the 18-year-old is close to joining the West Yorkshire club.

The youngster has been raved about due to his performances in the Premier League 2 last season. Playing mainly as a centre-forward, Perkins scored 10 goals for the U23 side.

The 18-year-old was also handed his Premier League debut by David Moyes, coincidently against Leeds. The West Ham academy product also played a couple of games in the Europa League.

With Tottenham lurking for his signing, it’s a big coup for the Whites. But it’s understandable. A place in the Spurs team is hard to come by. Leeds are a side that doesn’t have as much competition in the forward line.

Spurs have their own young talents

Tottenham have their own young strikers on their books. Troy Parrott is a promising youngster and the Ireland international is only 20 with 15 caps for his national side.

Spurs seem to be counting a lot on the youth this summer. The signings that have been made are primarily young. Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster are the only ones in their 30s.

The rest of our signings are in their early to mid-20s. The future looks secure with such an abundance of prospects at the club.

A few years down the line, if Perkins can make a name for himself in world football, maybe the 18-year-old will once again be on Tottenham’s radar. But until then, we’ll have to wait and see if the centre-forward can fulfil his potential.
