Spurs will listen to offers for £60m flop Richarlison so should West Ham take a chance and make him an ironic Michail Antonio heir?

When Brazil forward Richarlison was being linked with a move away from Everton many West Ham fans felt he would be the perfect for David Moyes’ system.

But Richarlison ended up at bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur instead in a £60m move.

A pest of a forward who can play in all three roles, many West Ham fans felt Richarlison would have been the perfect heir for Michail Antonio.

Previously likened to Marko Arnautovic – who was turned into one of the Premier League’s most feared forwards by Moyes – many Hammers supporters were somewhat jealous of Tottenham when they landed him.

Spurs will listen to offers for £60m flop Richarlison

Especially when Richarlison shone for Brazil at the World Cup. The signing was seen as a statement of intent from Spurs at the time.

The reality has been very different, though.

Richarlison has scored just five goals in 44 appearances across all competitions since joining Tottenham.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

He has become something of a joke figure. And he was even ruthlessly mocked by West Ham striker Antonio – who was heavily criticised for mocking the Spurs forward on a podcast.

Richarlison himself responded to Antonio’s banter by reportedly saying he will not shake his hand when they next meet.

But could he have the last laugh by being a somewhat controversial successor?

Should West Ham take a chance?

Many may scoff at the suggestion. But Richarlison has been heavily linked with a move to West Ham both when he was at Watford and Everton.

And Moyes has spoken recently about the dearth of strikers available in the market as he searches for his Antonio replacement.

At 26, Richarlison should have his best years ahead of him. And Moyes has a proven track record of getting the best out of characters like Arnautovic and Richarlison, converting inconsistent hot-headed forwards into top strikers.

The most ironic Antonio heir

The likes of Give Me Sport claim Richarlison’s Tottenham future is ‘up in the air’ and report he could be sold for the right money in January.

And TeamTalk claims the striker is open to leaving with Saudi clubs being linked.

There is an unofficial transfer embargo between Spurs and West Ham.

But should the Hammers look to end it by taking Richarlison off their hands and giving him a new lease of life?

He linked up brilliantly with West Ham’s Brazilian magnifico Lucas Paqueta at the World Cup until their shock elimination at the hands of Croatia on penalties in the quarter-finals.

Richarlison was played as a central striker during that tournament whereas he is often used in a wide role with Spurs.

Stranger things have happened in football. And West Ham have done several deals involving forwards down the years.

Yes Richarlison is a player opposition fans love to hate.

But he could be the pacy, powerful pest who fits Moyes’ style perfectly as the Hammers search for someone to replace soon-to-be 34-year-old Antonio.

Richarlison will miss next week’s clash between Tottenham and West Ham as he recovers from surgery. But he is due back mid-December when he should be playing pain-free for the first time in nearly a year as a result of the operation.
