Adrian Durham has lent his support to Declan Rice after his comments on the amount of games that he’s played were totally taken out of context.

The West Ham captain, 23, played an exhausting 68 games for club and country during a 12 month spell from June 2021.

Rice has been a standout performer for the Hammers and England over the past couple of years, whilst shouldering incredible amounts of responsibility for someone so young.

Sure he plays a lot of games, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t enjoy playing them. And Adrian Durham has shone the light on those who criticised Declan Rice.

Dec is quickly becoming one of the very best midfielders in world football, although he has admitted that he needs to take games by the scruff of the neck more often.

One thing he cannot be accused of though, is lacking the commitment, physical robustness, stamina and mental strength to play every single week.

Rice spoke to reporters before West Ham’s game with Anderlecht, highlighting how many games he has played over the past year or so.

Strangely though, multiple media outlets, including the likes of Sky Sports, took his comments completely out of context, going with headlines like ‘Rice hits out at busy fixture schedule’:

When listening to the entire interview though, Rice made it very clear that he relishes playing so many games.

It was a classic example of really poor journalism in a nutshell.

Many West Ham fans leapt to the defence of Rice, but he had a really high-profile ally as well…

Adrian Durham backs Declan Rice

The talkSPORT radio presenter took to Twitter last night to lend his support to the Hammers skipper, after the unfair and somewhat disingenuous headlines that followed his comments on the busy fixture schedule:

Top man Adrian.

The talkSPORT presenter often comes out with controversial opinions designed to divide and create attention.

This time though, he has got it spot on. The West Ham captain does his talking on the pitch, leaving absolutely everything out there every single time he plays.

The headlines that emerged on Thursday were all intended to make Dec look like he had a problem with playing so regularly. We all know that that categorically isn’t the case though.

Adrian Durham shut all of those journalists up with one simple sentence regarding the comments from Declan Rice.

And it was absolutely brilliant.
