West Ham United have performed a complete U-turn over a summer transfer move that David Moyes called off last week.

That’s according to a new claim from Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth who says West Ham are back in the mix for Jesse Lingard.

Last week a West Ham insider said the club’s Lingard hopes were dead after a final push from Moyes was unsuccessful.

STRANGEST Contracts In Football | Anti-Arsenal And Nightclub Clause?!

According to West Ham insiders speaking to Claret and Hugh Lingard snubbed the Hammers after Moyes made his last move to convince him to come to east London and questioned the club’s ambition.

It is one of football’s worst kept secrets that Moyes was desperate to bring Lingard back to West Ham last summer and again in January.

Well now it seems West Ham have performed a complete U-turn over the summer transfer move that Moyes called off.

In an update on Sky Sports last night, Sheth said West Ham still want Lingard.

“A final one, potentially arriving, and I say potentially arriving – this is one that has been in the pipeline and been of interest to West Ham United ever since he had a fantastic loan spell with them in the 2020/2021 season, the back-half of that season, Jesse Lingard joined.

“I’m told, that West Ham remain interested in Jesse Lingard, and are keeping an eye on his situation.

“Now, we’re told also that there are other areas of the pitch that are priority at the moment, but that doesn’t mean to say that if Lingard wanted to come to West Ham, West Ham wouldn’t be interested. Finances could prove to be the crucial factor here.”

Here we go again.

The Lingard saga has become almost utterly tiresome and frankly if the player can’t see that a move to West Ham is in his best interests then that’s his problem.

There are plenty of young, hungry players out there West Ham could sign.

At this moment in time it is Lingard’s availability on a free transfer that makes him such an attractive proposition after his sparkling loan spell.

But take that out of the equation and you have to wonder would West Ham be pushing this hard to sign a player who turns 30 next season on such huge wages?

If West Ham are indeed back in the mix for Lingard, let’s hope it can be concluded swiftly and does not drag on throughout the window.
