Report: Why Tottenham have not yet made star defender’s loan move permanent

Journo reveals why Tottenham have not yet signed Cristian Romero permanently

According to popular journalist Alastair Gold (via Football. London), Argentinian defender, the loan move of Cristian Romero to Tottenham has not been made permanent yet since it has not reached a particular date as mentioned in the contract.

Romero joined Spurs from Atlanta at the beginning of last season in a very complicated loan deal. In fact, both clubs added to the confusion with Spurs announcing it as a permanent transfer whilst the Italian club announced it as a season-long loan.

The complicated loan deal was structured in such a way that Romero joined Spurs initially on a simple loan deal that would turn into an obligation to buy for a fee of £42.5million subject to certain conditions being met.

It is being claimed that the Argentinian centre-back and Tottenham had already agreed to a five-year contract that would start once the loan move ends, at least according to when it is mentioned in the contract.

Hence, it has been extremely surprising this summer that Spurs have not yet announced the signing of Christian Romero on a permanent deal with doubts ensuing over why it has not yet gone through.

Alastair Gold via Football. London has now revealed why there is a delay in the announcement. It has emerged that Romero’s loan move will turn permanent once a specific date has been reached after which an official announcement will happen.

Despite all the confusion, what seems evident now is that no hiccups are expected in Romero’s permanent switch to Spurs and this will come as a piece of welcome news to those who were worried about the situation.

Romero is one of the best centre-backs we have and arguably one of the young defenders in the world. Despite his injuries, he has shown what he can bring to the team and his physicality is a huge plus.

The 24-year-old is already a mainstay in the Argentina national team and it is no surprise considering the potential he has. Antonio Conte rates him very highly and he could have a huge future at N17.

These loan moves can often turn out to be very confusing for people like us but it is great to have the reassurance that it is only a matter of time before Romero’s Tottenham move becomes permanent.
