West Ham United allegedly could gory to sign ex Chelsea right-back Ola Aina from Torino in the January transfer window.
That’s according to a report from allnigeriasoccer.com who claim that the Hammers have been tracking the 25-year-old for quite some time now.
Aina stayed with Torino in the end though after the Serie A outfit refused to sell him for that kind of money.
It appears as though David Moyes could make another move for the 17-capped Nigeria international in January though…
West Ham eyeing January swoop for Ola Aina
Right-back is a real problem position for the Hammers at the moment.
Vladimir Coufal has regressed badly whilst Ben Johnson continues to suffer with injuries. Harrison Ashby is currently out injured as well, and his future at the London Stadium is up in the air.
We think that Aina would be a decent addition for West Ham in January, but nothing more than that. In fact, Moyes could and should be aiming a lot higher than the 25-year-old.
The 17-capped Nigeria international is strong, quick along the ground and is also a good, solid defender.
Aina doesn’t really offer much going forward though. He’s bagged just six assists in 98 games for Torino (Transfermarkt).
Considering the role that modern day full-backs are expected to play, those numbers are nowhere near good enough.
David Moyes needs to go big either in January or the summer and sign an elite right-back with youth on his side.
West Ham signing Ola Aina in January would be a really underwhelming move in my opinion.
