Spurs Transfer News: Real Madrid linked with Tottenham Hotspur superstar Son Heung-min

As if Harry Kane’s links to Bayern Munich weren’t enough of a headache for Tottenham Hotspur fans to deal with, Real Madrid have now been linked with a move for Son Heung-min.

According to Sport1 (h/t the Express), Son is considering the ‘next step’ of his career and Real Madrid are keeping an eye on his situation at N17. The South Korea international is one of the most feared attackers in European football.

He shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah last season and while he hasn’t been in top form this term, his importance in manager Antonio Conte’s line-up is undebatable.

Now 30, Son doesn’t have a lot of time left in his playing career – at least at the peak of his powers. Moreover, the shelf lives of wingers isn’t a lot considering any drop in pace or stamina could see a decline in their performance on the pitch.

It is arguably a part of the reason the great Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi started playing more centrally in the last several years. Son can also play as a centre-forward and is truly a high-quality and proven attacker.

Son from Tottenham to Real Madrid?

His contract situation would naturally worry Spurs fans if it doesn’t improve by the end of the season. His deal expires in the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt).

Madrid, meanwhile, would have regretted signing Eden Hazard from Chelsea in 2019 while Karim Benzema, 34, cannot keep playing forever.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti can certainly get the best out of a world-class attacker like Son but so can Antonio Conte. Whether we have what it takes to convince Son to stay at N17 if Madrid come calling remains to be seen.

For that, we need to form a team that is capable of fighting with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City on the domestic front, and with Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) or Barcelona in Europe.

Then, perhaps, we wouldn’t have to worry so much about other European superclubs enticing our players away from us – be it Bayern with Kane or Madrid potentially with Son.
