Young midfielder Conor Coventry allegedly could leave West Ham United in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to a report from The Sunday Mirror (print edition 24 July, page 68) who claim that the 22-year-old could be looking for a loan move away from the Hammers.

The arrival of Flynn Downes has undoubtedly blocked Coventry’s path to the first team at the London Stadium.

The 22-year-old midfielder was expected to play a part for the first-team this season. That was before David Moyes signed Downes though.

He spent a successful loan spell away from the London Stadium last season with MK Dons and it seems as though he may well have to make do with another move away from West Ham this summer.

David Moyes has Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek and Downes as central midfield options for the 2022/23 season. Amadou Onana could be East London bound as well.

Coventry would have been hoping to kick on and prove his worth for the Hammers this term. He may well be left disappointed though…

The Mirror reckon that the 22-year-old midfielder may have to leave the London Stadium this summer in search of more regular first-team football.

Whether that be on loan or permanently remains to be seen though.

Moyes should at least check out the London-born midfielder during pre-season before making any kind of decision on his future.

Having Downes and Coventry competing against each other for a place in the first-team squad would be a very good thing.

It’s all about healthy competition after all.

Coventry’s future at the London Stadium will undoubtedly be heavily reliant on whether or not West Ham sign Onana this summer.

If the Belgium international does join the Hammers, Conor Coventry will surely have to leave, if he is to get some regular first-team action under his belt.
