West Ham United defender Issa Diop allegedly could be set to join Lyon in the summer transfer window after his agent met the Ligue 1 side’s Sporting Director.

That’s according to a report from L’Equipe who claim that Diop’s representatives have already met with Lyon Sporting Director Vincent Ponsot.

Hammers boss David Moyes desperately needs to strengthen his central defensive ranks at the London Stadium this summer.

Angelo Ogbonna is still out of action with an ACL injury and he will be 34 before the start of next season. Meanwhile, Kurt Zouma is set for a spell on the sidelines with an ankle problem.

Craig Dawson will be 32 next month as well. So it’s clear to see why Moyes will want to bolster his centre-back department in the summer transfer window.

It appears as though the Scot might have to bring more than one central defender in this summer, however, with one man being heavily linked with an exit from the London Stadium.

West Ham ace Issa Diop’s agent meets Lyon Sporting Director

L’Equipe reckon that the 25-year-old is a key target for Lyon this summer.

The French club’s Sporting Director Vincent Ponsot allegedly met with Diop’s representatives last week.

We actually wouldn’t have been opposed to Diop leaving this summer…until Thursday night.

The former Toulouse ace put in a truly sensational display against Lyon in the Europa League and he proved that he still has a lot to offer West Ham.

Diop, who earns around £70,000-a-week at the London Stadium, actually has all of the attributes needed to succeed at the very highest level. The problem is that he doesn’t show that on a consistent enough basis.

Moyes will have to weigh up whether he really believes Diop can regularly produce the goods for West Ham. L’Equipe reckon that the Hammers boss could cash in on the 25-year-old for just £8 million.

And if the Hammers sell Diop for that kind of fee, we think that might end up looking like a big mistake.
