Real Madrid monitoring Sporting CP’s Pedro Porro, but Tottenham Hotspur will make one last try
Tottenham Hotspur will make one last try for Sporting CP right-back and Real Madrid transfer target Pedro Porro, as per Spanish outlet AS.
The 23-year-old right-back has been on Spurs’ radar recently. They have tried to offer cash plus bonuses as well as foregoing a 50% sell-on clause in Marcus Edwards’ Sporting CP contract.
However, the Portuguese giants have remained adamant that the 45million Euros release clause has to be met for the former Manchester City full-back to leave the club in January.
They signed him just last summer from the Etihad outfit and aren’t under any pressure to sell him unless a team activates his release clause. Apparently, Los Blancos have been following his progress for the last three seasons.
Real Madrid, a big threat for Spurs
And why wouldn’t they? He is a young Spanish full-back that is slowly honing his skills and bettering his game to become a complete full-back.
His physicality and maturity in defence as well as in the final third are that of a player older than 23. Under a coach like Antonio Conte, famed for his defensive set-ups, he can take his game to the next level.
But Real Madrid’s interest should scare Spurs. They are a giant in Spanish football who can promise him competing at the very highest levels for trophies and a near-guarantee of playing in the UEFA Champions League every season.
Moreover, they don’t have any natural, quality backup to 31-year-old Daniel Carvajal. Eder Militao seems to be more suited at centre-back while Porro is a natural right-back who can offer more agility and finesse down that flank.

Hence, if Spurs are to make a try, it better be with an offer that meets the release clause. This could be an investment that sorts out our right-back situation for several years, with Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty, and Djed Spence all failing to impress on a consistent basis.
