Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has provided an injury update on four players ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have been in a poor run of form since the winter break. They have picked up just nine points from a possible 18 and recently suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat in the Manchester derby.

Rangnick will want a strong response from his side against Spurs tomorrow. Ahead of the game, he has confirmed the availability of both Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani.

Ronaldo was a surprise absentee for the derby with a hip flexor problem that he has been nursing for some time. Meanwhile, Cavani missed the game with a nagging groin issue.

Both players have recovered from their respective setbacks and Rangnick expects them to feature against Antonio Conte’s men.

He told Manutd.com: “He resumed for training yesterday. He trained the whole training session and I expect him to train today.”

“I would’ve thought he is available tomorrow. What’s important is that he and Edi are both back in training and are both available for the game.”

Aside from the duo, Raphael Varane is available for selection after overcoming a bout of coronavirus, but Luke Shaw won’t be up for selection.

The England star tested positive for coronavirus alongside Varane but has not recovered in time for the Spurs encounter.

Scott McTominay has also been ruled out for the meeting. The Scot only recently returned from an illness.

He is set to miss out tomorrow with a calf issue. With the Atletico game on Tuesday, Rangnick has acknowledged that he is wary of playing him.

Rangnick added: “Luke Shaw will miss out. Until yesterday, still testing positive for Covid. Scotty is a question mark, problems with his calf.”

“Right now, it’s more likely he will not be available because if we risk him tomorrow he might be out for the game on Tuesday.”

United are currently just one point adrift of fourth-placed Arsenal, but the Gunners have an advantage with three matches in hand.

With this in mind, there is no room for errors for United hereafter, and tomorrow’s game against Spurs is a must-win for them.

Otherwise, the gap could extend drastically. This will be United’s final game before the international break with the Liverpool fixture postponed.

By contrast, the Gunners will be playing three times in the same period. United will be hoping that Mikel Arteta’s side start to drop points.
