Ralf Rangnick has outlined his delight at Man United’s defence and physicality vs West Ham.
Well, Manchester United left it supremely late to win all three points against West Ham, but it doesn’t get better than homegrown hero Marcus Rashford scoring in injury time.
Ralf Rangnick deserves all the credit. It was his tactical decisions late on that swung the pendulum in our favour. It’s true that United were well on top and controlling the game for the most part, without showing any real cutting edge – until those changes were made.
Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial, all subs, all played their part in the winning goal. It sent the Stretford End absolutely nuts. There’s no better way to win a football match.
However, after the game, Rangnick would credit the other aspect of the game; defending.
The German would laud this as our best defensive performance during his time as manager, while explaining that the aspect of our game that impressed him the most was the physicality, which he’d label as ‘outstanding’.
Check out what the gaffer had to say here:
“Defensively our best performance of last eight weeks. Our counter-pressing, trying to win balls back, physicality was outstanding.” Rangnick told the media, including Laurie Whitwell.
It’s hard to disagree. Now I know he’s an unpopular man amongst the fans right now, but Harry Maguire deserves massive credit for that. He made two or three colossal tackles in the opening few minutes and those really set the tone for what was a positive overall display.
On top of that, Raphael Varane was as imperious as ever, while Diogo Dalot also looked surprisingly solid for the most part. It really was a team effort from the lads, who all stuck together to get the job done.
This has to be just the start. Manchester United are now in the top four, but we have to start stringing the wins together in order to stay there. Now is the time, confidence is high and we have to start building a gap between ourselves and the other contenders.
Well played, lads!
