Jack Clarke is close to swapping Tottenham Hotspur for Sunderland

Jack Clarke is close to leaving on a permanent deal from Tottenham Hotspur this summer and will join Sunderland in the Championship, according to football.london. The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at the Stadium of Light.

Signing for Spurs in 2019 as a promising youngster, Clarke has failed to live up to his expectations with the North London side and has gone on to play for Leeds, Queen Park Rangers and Stoke City on loan.

After making his debut for Tottenham in 2020 in the Europa League, Clarke hasn’t seen many minutes at the club and has mostly featured for the U23 side.

The 21-year-old’s best spell came on loan with the Black Cats in his short-loan spell last season and now both the player and the Tyneside club want to make the move permanent.

Featuring in 20 games for Sunderland, Clarke helped them to promotion from League One into the Championship. Playing in an array of positions, the forward contributed with one goal and four assists.

Now the Black Cats are looking at going into next season with the 21-year-old by their side. Sunderland will hope to make it back into the Premier League after years of absence. The Championship is a good league for players to develop and improve their game.

The relentless pace of English football’s second-tier makes or breaks athletes. It’s a good next step for Clarke if regular football is what the youngster hopes for.

Tottenham are currently building a side for Antonio Conte with several new signings coming through the door, especially for the attacking positions. Ivan Perisic and Richarlison have been signed this summer, while Dejan Kulusevski has already been at the club since January.

In the current scenario, it’s difficult to envision Clarke having many opportunities in the squad. Therefore, a move away is the best for both parties as Tottenham look to trim the squad.

Just like our signings, we need to move fast and ensure the squad the gaffer wants is ready when we play our first match on 6 August against Southampton.
