Power Rankings 1-10: West Ham United’s best players so far throughout what has been really challenging season.

The Hammers have made a woeful start to the 2022/23 Premier League campaign, and we are currently sitting in 16th spot in the table, just two points clear of the relegation zone.

David Moyes is certainly feeling the pressure, and is apparently on thin ice in his role at the London Stadium.

It’s hard to find positives from the first 15 games of the season, but there have at least been some.

It is worth remembering as well that with such a huge turnover of players, it will always take some time for the squad to gel.

Declan Rice has once again been exceptional whilst we have seen glimpses of what Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Paqueta are capable of.

But who have been the best 10 players for the Hammers this season?

Power Rankings 1-10: West Ham United’s best players this season

1. Declan Rice

The 23-year-old has once again been head and shoulders above every other West Ham player so far this season, and there is no debating that.

Rice has been a constant driving force for the Hammers. God knows where we would be in the table without him. Let’s hope that we manage to turn things around after the World Cup break so that we can convince Dec to sign a new long-term contract.

2. Kurt Zouma

The 28-year-old Frenchman began the season really slowly, but has really come into his own over the past couple of months with some dominant displays. Unfortunately for him, he limped off injured against Leicester last weekend. Let’s hope that he’s not out for too long.

3. Said Benrahma

The 27-year-old winger has been our most positive, forward-thinking attacker so far this season. He always tries to make things happen for West Ham and forces his opponents to make mistakes. It’s a shame that David Moyes doesn’t see it that way isn’t it?

4. Lukas Fabianski

The 37-year-old goalkeeper has been very impressive so far this season. Sure, he isn’t the best with the ball at his feet, but his shot-stopping is still up there with the very best. Fab has kept Alphonse Areola out of the team, and that tells us all we need to know.

5. Flynn Downes

The 23-year-old midfielder has been absolutely brilliant for West Ham in the Europa Conference League, and the only reason that he is not higher up on the list is because he has only played a few Premier League games.

I think that we have a real player on our hands here.

6. Gianluca Scamacca

The Italian has made a fairly frustrating start to life at the London Stadium, but I’ve put him in at fifth because of the unbelievable quality that he has shown at times. The 23-year-old has bagged six goals as well – not a bad return for his debut season in England.

7. Thilo Kehrer

The German has been very much up and down for the Hammers since moving to the London Stadium from PSG in the summer.

He was superb during the first six weeks or so, but has struggled over the past month. In my opinion though, there has been more good than bad from Kehrer.

8. Pablo Fornals

The Spaniard just hasn’t lived up to his high standards this season, but I still believe that that is mostly down to him being predominantly shunted out on the left wing.

Fornals does his best work in the middle of the park and Moyes must start playing him there regularly if we are to see the best of him in a West Ham shirt.

He has bagged four goals in 23 games, so it has not all been bad for the 26-year-old (Transfermarkt).

9. Aaron Cresswell

The experienced left-back has been much-maligned by the Hammers fans over the past year or so. He was blamed for our exit from the Europa League at the semi-final stage last season after getting sent-off against Eintracht Frankfurt.

He has bounced back impressively this season in my opinion though. However, it must be said that the 32-year-old’s positioning and lack of mobility really is a huge liability for West Ham at times.

10. Jarrod Bowen

We all know that the 25-year-old has been nowhere near his best this season. In fact, he has been average at best.

In fairness to Bowen though, he has still bagged five goals, so he’s just done enough to make the top 10 in my opinion.

Lucas Paqueta, Maxwel Cornet, Nayef Aguerd and Emerson just haven’t played enough since making their summer moves to the London Stadium to make the list.

However, we’re hoping that those four will have big roles to play when Premier League football resumes.

There may be a few surprises in the Power Rankings 1-10: West Ham United’s best players…and considering how poor we’ve been this season, it was actually very hard to compile.

Hopefully next time we do this, there will be far more competition for the top 10!
