There has been a positive Raphael Varane injury update ahead of the World Cup.

Manchester United have looked pretty impressive for the most part under Erik ten Hag, despite the fact the developmental process under the new manager has only just started.

The Dutchman has brought defensive solidity back to the Red Devils – something which has deserted the club over the last couple of seasons.

A large reason behind that is the return to fitness of Raphael Varane. The Frenchman enjoyed a few months without picking up an injury, leading to his best performances in United colours.

Sadly, Varane would pick up a pretty serious-looking problem against Chelsea. He’d leave the pitch in tears, leading to fears that he would not feature for France at the World Cup.

Well, I’m pleased to report we have been given a positive Raphael Varane injury update from L’Equipe, with the translation via GFFN.

L’Equipe give United and France a big injury lift, claiming that the key star is potentially ready to return to club training next week – before jetting off to Qatar with his national side.

The centre-back suffered the injury on October 22nd, but it’s seemingly less serious than first feared and Varane is set to recover in time.

Varane, 29, will not feature in United’s final two games before the World Cup – though this does mean that the Frenchman should be fit upon his return to Manchester in late-December.

The centre-back had been forming a wonderful partnership with Lisandro Martinez at the heart of the back four. No doubt Ten Hag is keen to reunite the pair as soon as possible. The Reds’ first game back takes place on 27th December at home to Nottingham Forest. That feels like a good game to ease Varane back into things for his club.
