Pep Guardiola’s ringing endorsement for West Ham manager target Vincent Kompany should have David Sullivan scrambling for the phone.

Speculation has been rife that West Ham will part ways with David Moyes this summer no matter what happens.

A West Ham board confident has claimed Moyes and head of recruitment Rob Newman will not get another penny to spend from the club’s owners.

Defeat to Man City in midweek has left West Ham still sweating on sealing Premier League survival.

And recent reports have suggested one of Manchester City’s beloved former players is in the running to replace Moyes at West Ham.

The Belgian has caught the eye by revolutionising and quickly implementing a completely different and progressive style at Turf Moor.

Supporters say it is like chalk and cheese compared to the brand of football played by former Burnley boss Sean Dyche.

The Times claims West Ham are eyeing a more progressive style under a new manager next season.

So it is hardly surprising Kompany is being linked with a switch to the London Stadium (Football League World).

Pundit Paul Merson has advised Kompany to leap at the chance to manage West Ham should David Sullivan come calling in the summer.

After the midweek win over the Hammers, Man City did West Ham a big favour by beating Leeds 2-1 on Saturday.

Ahead of that game Guardiola sat down with Sky Sports and was asked about Kompany.

‘I have a feeling’

The Man City boss was gushing in his praise. And if West Ham really do want to make a change then Kompany has received a glowing reference from the man many regard as the best manager in the world.

“I like a lot (what I have seen from Kompany),” Guardiola said.

“Championship I have not been there but with how many games I can imagine how difficult it can be. And in a short period of time (he’s implemented) his own style, what he believes in. His impact on Burnley, the structure of the team was really good.

“I congratulate him and all the people from Man City that know him we are so delighted that he’s a success and that next season he will be in the Premier League. He will have an incredibly successful career. Because I know him a little bit. I’ve not been as a football player with him, been manager of him.

“But I have the feeling that he knows exactly what he has to do. He’s a huge competitor, he will have a huge success in his career, I’m sure of that.”
