Cocky Pascal Jansen comes out with unbelievably bold claim after West Ham beat AZ Alkmaar – David Moyes’s team-talk has been done for him!

West Ham beat AZ Alkmaar 2-1 at the London Stadium in the Europa Conference League semi-final first-leg last night, but the Dutch side’s manager Pascal Jansen still had unwavering confidence after the match.

The Hammers were really poor inside the first 45 minutes, and AZ deservedly led 1-0 at the break. There was some really poor individual mistakes and the team’s performance in general was far too slow and lacklustre. Things just weren’t clicking for us during the first-half.

West Ham turned things around though and won the game 2-1 in the end with goals from Said Benrahma and Michail Antonio.

David Moyes would have been delighted with his side’s resilience. It seems as though Jansen was pleased with his side’s efforts as well though, in spite of their defeat…

The Alkmaar boss addressed the media after his side’s 2-1 Conference League defeat to the Hammers at the London Stadium last night.

And Jansen insisted that he’s ‘very confident’ ahed of the return leg, via Football.London reporter Jonty Colman.

In my opinion, Jansen has just done David Moyes’s team-talk for him ahead of the second-leg clash at the AFAS Stadium next Thursday.

The game should actually suit us down to the ground, with AZ Alkmaar needing to come out and force the issue.

Moyes is notorious for setting up his teams to sit back, soak up pressure and hit their opponents on the counter-attack.

Whilst I don’t think that approach was acceptable for a home leg of a European semi-final, I think it might just work in our favour out in Holland next week.

The Hammers proved during the second-half last night that we have more quality than the Eredivisie outfit, and if the players are on top form out in Holland there will only be one winner.

We just need to play more with the intensity and ferocious speed that is required in the Premier League, and then they really won’t be able to live with us in my opinion.

Pascal Jansen’s comments after the West Ham vs AZ Alkmaar clash last night should fire up the Hammers players ahead of the return leg.
