Lucas Paqueta has made it very clear to David Moyes what position that he wants to play in for West Ham.

West Ham manager David Moyes signed Lucas Paqueta from Lyon in the summer for a club record £51 million fee (The Times).

However, after a slow start to life at the London Stadium, Moyes admitted that the 25-year-old wasn’t actually doing what he signed him to do – score goals and provide assists.

Since then, Paqueta has been racking up goal contributions, and now has five goals and five assists in 35 games for the Hammers to his name (Transfermarkt).

There have been debates as to what the Brazilian’s best position in. For West Ham he has operated as more of a number 10 whilst for his country, he plays a lot deeper.

And the talented play-maker has made it very clear to Moyes what position he would actually like to play in…

The Brazilian has been speaking to WHUFC.com ahead of the Hammers’ clash with Manchester United at the London Stadium tonight.

The 25-year-old will have a key role to play for West Ham tonight, if we are to beat the Red Devils.

And Paqueta insisted that he is at his best when operating a bit deeper:

“I played a bit further back against Manchester City – I like playing there because I touch the ball more and I’m more involved in the game.”

Surely Moyes has to take heed of these comments.

In all fairness to the Scot, he has been setting up with Lucas Paqueta in a deeper role for West Ham recently. And as a result, the former Lyon man has had far more influence on our games.

He is an incredibly gifted player from a technical perspective and now seems to have fully adjusted to the ferocious tempo of Premier League football.

From here on out, Paqueta will get better and better for the Hammers. Moyes must persist with playing him in the middle of the park rather than the number 10 position though, so he can influence games more regularly.
