On this day (February 10) in 2015, Liverpool beat Tottenham 3-2 at Anfield as an unlikely hero appeared.

The Reds took the lead through Serbian forward Lazar Markovic – his third and final goal for the club.

Spurs captain Harry Kane equalised for the visitors before Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard restored the advantage from the penalty spot.

Belgian midfielder Moussa Dembele struck back once again for Mauricio Pochettino’s side but it was Mario Balotelli who had the final say late on.

Brendan Rodgers’ men went on to finish the 2014/15 campaign sixth in the Premier League – one place behind Tottenham.

Balotelli finished the season with four goals in 28 appearances across all competitions for the Reds – subsequently leaving on loan to AC Milan the following summer.

Neither Markovic nor Balotelli enjoyed particularly auspicious careers on Merseyside and this match arguably represents their finest moments for the club.

Although most would take the three points in any shape or form, Liverpool supporters will be hoping for an altogether more comfortable evening’s work against a Rodgers’ team tonight.

Big picture the Reds are a much-improved side from this to now and Jurgen Klopp’s incarnation would be reticent to become entangled in such an all-action affair…or at least we hope.
