Antonio Conte admits his decision to stay at Tottenham Hotspur was an easy one
Antonio Conte has said that Tottenham Hotspur “have only just started” in their bid to compete and fight for titles in the years to come. According to the Evening Standard, the Italian said that the decision to stay at Spurs was an easy one.
“It was simple to continue this project because first of all, I have another year of contract. I am totally involved in this project.”
Conte’s ambitions are for the club to be better and build for the future. The gaffer feels that securing a top-four finish was a massive boost for the team, but there is still a lot of work to be done.
“To finish in the top four was a great achievement for us but we have only just started this project.”
Conte calls for time and patience but wants the club to be stronger every year and compete for titles. For that, the Italian believes the team needs to add more depth in the squad to compete for all the titles.
“Our ambition has to be to try to improve and be competitive in all the competitions. It means that you need a deep squad because our ambition has to be to be competitive in every competition. Then, I know to win [a trophy] is very difficult.”
Conte has seemingly been rewarded for guiding the team to the fourth spot. Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici have gone about the summer transfer business efficiently and brought in several targets early in the window before the start of the pre-season.
The new boss has new signings Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison with the squad he’s taken to South Korea. Clement Lenglet has completed a loan move but remains in London.
Tottenham have backed Conte
After last season’s enthralling end, fans called for Conte to be backed and that’s exactly what the club have done up until now. The squad has been strengthened with quality additions.
Our attack is stacked and has world-class options in Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. The two stars are accompanied by Dejan Kulusevski, Lucas Moura and the new summer signings.
The midfield looked strong with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur last season. Bissouma joins the party as well and adds quality in depth. Oliver Skipp is also a promising prospect in the middle of the park.
Spurs had the fourth-best defensive record in the Premier League last season, conceding 40 goals in the campaign. Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Ben Davies and Davinson Sanchez played a big part in maintaining solidity at the back.
