With the international break now upon us, we’ve decided to draw up a best MUFC XI of the 2022/23 season so far…

Manchester United will not play again until the end of December. This 2022 Qatar World Cup has changed the whole view of the current campaign, with club football now on hold for the next month or so.

Anyway, Erik ten Hag can use this as a time to regroup, recharge, get together with his staff and evaluate. What could United have done better? What did the club do well?

From a fan’s standpoint, I’m content with how it’s gone. I love Ten Hag. He’s been a true breath of fresh air. He has standards. A set way of playing. A winning mindset. We’re seeing that all on full display.

His signings have all done well, which leads us into the main topic of today’s article; the best MUFC XI of the 2022/23 season so far…

Without further ado, this is what we’re going for.

As usual, some positions pretty much pick themselves, so we’ll talk about those ones less.

Let’s start with David de Gea. The Spaniard has undoubtedly improved as the season has worn on. Perhaps he’s truly adapting to this passing game, while still being the elite shot-stopper we’ve all come to love.

The right-back slot was another easy one. Diogo Dalot has been unchallenged all season out there, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka completely out in the cold.

Left-back was tough. Tyrell Malacia started the season really well. He is yet to let the club down. Though Luke Shaw is proving his worth, so I’ve gone with the Englishman as his highs have been higher, if that makes sense.

The back two has been the big surprise for me. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane are forming quite a partnership at the heart of defence. They have the correct blend of everything you need to succeed at the highest level. This was pretty easy to pick.

Casemiro took some time to get going, though his class and quality is there for all to see. The Brazilian absolutely looks the part. As does another new signing; Christian Eriksen. The Dane has been way better than I thought he would be, contributing in every aspect.

Bruno Fernandes has really been the only constant when it comes to chance creation. That’s largely down to his willingness to take risks. I’m more than okay with that.

Antony hit the ground running with a goal on debut against Arsenal, while looking like someone who is consistently willing to press and work hard. Over on the left, Jadon Sancho can feel hard done by, with Alejandro Garnacho getting the nod instead of the Englishman. He has been nothing but sensational.

I’ve gone for Marcus Rashford as the striker. He’s been the main source of goals for this team, though Anthony Martial could change that in the second portion of the campaign.
