New snub leaves Lingard with egg on his face as West Ham enjoy superstar

A new snub leaves Jesse Lingard with egg on his face as West Ham United enjoy Brazil superstar Lucas Paqueta.

When Lingard snubbed West Ham for Nottingham Forest in the summer it caused quite the stir in the football world.

West Ham’s year-long pursuit of Lingard came to an end when the Moyes favourite made something of a shock announcement that he was signing for newly-promoted Forest.

The midfielder was widely criticised and accused of chasing the money by joining Forest after reports abound that he was offered £200k per week by the club of Brian Clough.

That criticism turned out to be inaccurate and unfair, though, when the reports were blown out of the water by respected journalists at both The Telegraph and The Athletic who said he is actually on a base salary of £80k rising to £121k pw at Forest – less than he had been offered by the Hammers.

As stated by Hammers News in the summer, we are led to believe Lingard was not given assurances from Moyes that he would be a guaranteed starter.

And the midfield playmaker was well aware that West Ham were going to be bringing in a host of top quality signings this summer.

Moyes did just that, spending £170m on eight players including Brazil international Paqueta.

West Ham and Paqueta are slowly but surely starting to come good and look the real deal after three wins in a week.

Paqueta has had football fans salivating with some of his amazing touches and skills – not to mention his hard graft for the team.

Two sublime assists in wins over Anderlecht and Fulham have made the headlines.

But Paqueta’s touch map from West Ham’s 3-1 win over the Cottagers simply has to be seen to be believed.

Meanwhile Lingard’s touch map from Forest’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa would have been a lot easier to compile.

Because a new snub leaves Lingard with egg on his face as West Ham enjoy superstar Paqueta.

Lingard was dropped by Nottingham Forest for the draw with fellow strugglers Villa.

And the former Hammers loan star did not even get on, remaining on the bench for the entire game.

With every passing week Lingard’s decision to snub West Ham is looking more and more questionable.

Hammers fans will always be grateful to Lingard for that brilliant loan spell and helping Moyes’ boys qualify for the Europa League.

They were the dark days of lockdown when fans weren’t allowed in stadiums and his performances literally lit up our living rooms during that difficult period.

But Lingard made his bed regarding his move to Forest and now he must lay in it.

West Ham fans have moved on now, enjoying the Brazil-liance of Paqueta and co instead.
